Obstacle 02 · After the sale closes
Close the sale, but stay a little longer.
If you need more time before moving, a buyer may agree to let you remain temporarily after your sale closes. This is called Use & Occupancy.
The ownership and moving dates can differ.
After closing, you no longer own the home. A separate agreement may allow a temporary stay while you complete the transition.
A few things matter.
- The buyer must agree, and their financing and occupancy requirements must allow it.
- Your agent and attorney help address the move-out date, compensation and responsibilities.
- Plan where you will go if the next purchase is delayed beyond the agreed stay.
